Pro-Female Suffrage propaganda poster, ‘The anti-suffrage ostrich. The poster was designed by Catharine Courtauld a member of the Suffrage Atelier, who produced handmade prints and stencils to promote the 'Votes for Women' campaign. Here the ostrich represents the anti-suffragists or those opposed to votes for women. Despite the fact that the sun (Women's Freedom) is rising, the ostrich still buries its head in the sand (Ignorance and Stupidity) and insists: 'The sun is Not Rising'.
