View shows the fork of Buckland Crescent on the left and Belsize Park and the building in the centre is the building acquired by the Hall School in 1916. From about 1910, Robert Bevan was inspired to draw and paint his immediate surroundings. This is one of a group of his paintings of his neighbourhood. The fork of Buckland Crescent and Belsize Park was a short walk from the family's Adamson Road home. Bevan met French post-impressionist painter Paul Gauguin while working in Brittany. Gauguin is the single most notable influence on Bevan's style. This can be seen in this painting, where the colours are contained within clearly outlined areas.
